This past November a lot of media buzz surrounded NSU and made the university known for something other than academics on a national level. I am referring to the controversy that surrounded President Ferrero being named one of the top paid presidents in the nation based on an article published in the Chronicle of Higher Education. In this issue, The Current's News Editor, Annarely Rodriguez tackles this story and gives us an in-depth look at what the reasoning was behind the increase in pay and how the NSU community feels about it.

Haiti is still in a state of turmoil and I noticed a lot of organizations colleting donations and non-perishable goods. However, I remembered back to the state of Thailand after the Tsunami hit on Dec. 26, 2004. Many of the donations that were sent were not useful to the victims of the Tsunami. Think about it - does a Haitian in Haiti who has no home really need an old teddy bear? Perhaps, some do, but I urge you to send donations to organizations that have the logistics in place to mobilize aid. If you choose to donate, send your donations to organizations like the Red Cross who have the infrastructure to put your donations to good work.
